A bogus tweet claiming East Ayrshire schools will be closed has been rubbished by the council.
The fake message alleges that all schools in the region will be closed due to strike action from Monday, September 5 to Thursday, September 8.
The bogus message reads: "All schools, will be shut from Monday, September 5 to Thursday 8 due to industrial issues in the area of Kilmarnock, Stewarton, Kilmaurs, Dunlop and Galston... Sorry for and inconveniences this has caused."
The local authority moved this morning to dismiss the tweet and to reaffirm that schools will not be affected by industrial action taking place in other parts of the country between September 6 and 8 next week.
An East Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: "We can confirm that East Ayrshire Schools will not be affected by strike action of school support services planned to take place between 6-8 September 2022."
The local authorities affected by school and early years strike action next week are as follows: East Renfrewshire, Glasgow, Inverclyde, North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire, Angus Council, Dundee City and Tayside Contracts.
However all three Ayrshire counties' waste workers are set to take part in further strike action from Tuesday, September 6 to Tuesday, September 13.
