Body camera footage from a federal task force operation in Memphis appears to show that a 25-year-old man having a mental health crisis was shot dead by a US immigration agent inside his home despite posing no imminent threat, according to his family's lawyer.
Neal was fatally shot on 20 May after his mother, Jessica Neal, called 911 to report that he was experiencing a mental health crisis and had threatened suicide with her handgun. The agent who opened fire was serving with Homeland Security Investigations, a branch of ICE attached to the multi-agency Memphis Safe Task Force, deployed to tackle violent crime under directives from then-President Donald Trump and Tennessee Governor Bill Lee.
