A body has been found on a Scots beach, prompting a police investigation.

The alarm was raised shortly before 8.30am on Sunday, November 27 when officers were alerted to the body of a woman having been discovered on Torryburn beach near Dunfermline.

It is currently not known how the 49-year-old woman died. However, cops have confirmed that they do not believe it to be suspicious, and are treating the death as 'unexplained'.

The force are now probing the sad event in the hopes of piecing together exactly what happened.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware around 8.20am on Sunday, 27 November of the body of a 49-year-old woman having been found on Torryburn beach near Dunfermline.

“Her death is being treated as unexplained but there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
