A 40-year-old man is in police custody after the discovery of a body following a suspicious Hobart house fire.
Authorities were called shortly before 7am on Friday to reports of a home ablaze at Glenorchy in the city's northern suburbs.
"A body has been located in a room of that residence," Tasmania Police Detective Acting Inspector Nick Bowden said.
"Police are working to formally identify the deceased which will unfortunately take some time."
Insp Bowden said a man from Hobart was taken into custody on Friday afternoon and was assisting police with their inquiries.
A Blue Mazda sedan was found on fire in North Hobart, with the car having links to the Sanders Street blaze, Insp Bowden said.
Police said they were treating the house fire as suspicious and believe it was deliberately lit.
Police believe one person lived at the house, which has been declared a crime scene.
