A body found in the search for missing Katie Kenyon has been confirmed by police to be the mum-of-two.
Police said a post-mortem examination revealed she had head injuries which led to her death, the Mirror reports.
Lancashire Police announced the news through a statement on Twitter on the afternoon of Sunday May 1.
It read: "We can now sadly confirm that the body found in the Forest of Bowland is that of Katie Kenyon.
"We found Katie on Friday following extensive searches and she has now been formally identified as the missing Padiham mum, 33.
"A Home Office post-mortem examination was conducted yesterday and the cause of death was given as head injuries.
"Our thoughts remain with Katie's family and loved ones at this difficult time.
"The family continues to be supported by our specially trained officers."
Katie, aged 33, from Padiham in Burnley, Lanarkshire was last seen at around 9.30am on Friday, April 22.
It's believed she travelled in a silver Ford Transit van from Burnley towards Bolton-by-Bowland.
The confirmation comes hours after Katie’s heartbroken relatives paid emotional tributes to the mum-of-two.
A social media post from her sister Jenny said: “Will love you forever and always my beautiful big sister.”
Another read: “Can’t thank everybody enough for the support you have all shown for beautiful Katie and Katie’s beautiful children.”
Andrew Burfield, aged 50, appeared via a video link from HMP Preston for a seven-minute courtt hearing on Friday, April 29.
He was charged with the murder of Katie Kenyon and spoke only to confirm his identity during the hearing at Preston Crown Court.
Burfield, of Todmorden Road, Burnley, was remanded in custody and a trial date was set for November 14.
