Body found in River Trent identified as missing 15-year-old by police

A body found in River Trent has been identified as a missing 15-year-old by police. The force have confirmed the body found in the River Trent on Friday (May 26) afternoon was that of 15-year-old Oliwier Kaczmarowska, who had been reported missing.

Specially-trained officers had conducted a three-day search for Oliwier, who was last seen close to the Nottinghamshire border at The Flood Road bridge in Gainsborough during the evening of Monday, May 22. Officers later disclosed that they believed he had "entered the water" after viewing CCTV footage which showed someone entering the water near the river bank.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is now being prepared for the coroner. Tributes have been laid in the local area, with police asking these are placed on the grassy area next to the Trent Port pub.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: "We are saddened to confirm that following formal identification, the body found in the River Trent yesterday afternoon (May 26) was 15-year-old Oliwier Kaczmarowska.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is now being prepared for HM Coroner. Tributes have been laid in the local area, and we ask that they are placed on the grassy area next to the Trent Port pub.

"Our thoughts are with Oliwier’s family at this incredibly difficult time. They are being supported by specialist officers and we ask that their privacy is respected. We also ask that people do not speculate about how or why Oliwier died."
