The body of a man was found by fire crews after a 'serious' blaze ripped through a flat.
Emergency services were called to a fire in Laurence Deacon Court, St Anne Street, Birkenhead, at around 8.45pm on Monday, May 2. Three fire engines attended the scene and fire fighters entered the property wearing breathing apparatus.
After fighting the fire with hose reel jets, crews confirmed they discovered the body of a man at the property. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have confirmed that his next of kin have been informed and a post a mortem will now be carried out to establish the cause of death. Merseyside police have launched a joint investigation into the fire along with Merseyside fire and rescue service.
A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "Emergency services were called out to a fire at a property in Birkenhead last night, Monday 2 May. Police were called at around 9pm to a flat at Laurence Deacon Court on St Anne’s Street.
"Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) extinguished the fire before discovering the body of a man at the property. The man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. His next of kin have been informed.
"A post mortem will be carried out to establish the cause of death. A joint investigation is underway with MFRS to establish the cause of the fire.
