A shocking discovery was made in Yonkers, New York, as a body was found burning inside a shopping cart along a sidewalk, leading to a further investigation that uncovered additional remains in an apartment in the Bronx.
The victim was found near the Oak Street Bridge over the Bronx River Parkway in the early hours of Monday, as reported by the Yonkers Police on social media. The Westchester County Department of Public Safety and the Mount Vernon Fire Department responded to a fire report and tragically found a deceased body once the flames were extinguished.
Upon arrival at the scene, Yonkers Police located the body in the shopping cart, initiating a death investigation that was later classified as a homicide. It was revealed that the location where the body was discovered was merely a 'dump site,' despite being within Yonkers city limits. Subsequently, the investigation was handed over to the New York City Police Department and the Bronx County District Attorney's Office.
Authorities believe the victim was killed inside an apartment on Rogers Place in Longwood, Bronx, before most of the body was placed in a shopping cart. The cart was then transported on the Melrose MetroNorth train station a few stops north to Mount Vernon West and left on the Oak Street Bridge in Yonkers, where it was set ablaze.
Investigators utilized surveillance footage to track the suspects' movements on a train to Yonkers and back to the Bronx. A search warrant executed by the NYPD at the apartment revealed body parts, including hands and teeth, along with the discovery of drug paraphernalia and a firearm at the residence.
Due to the severe burns sustained by the body, the victim's identity remains unknown, posing a challenge for investigators in determining the individual's identity and cause of death. The case continues to be actively investigated by authorities as they work to unravel the circumstances surrounding this disturbing incident.
