Bobby Madden reacts to Willie Collum's justification for Rangers goal vs Ross County

Bobby Madden has praised the Scottish FA for finally clarifying certain VAR decisions as he provided his take on their explanation for allowing a controversial Rangers goal against Ross County to stand last month.

New SFA Head of Referees Willie Collum featured in the association’s inaugural VAR review, where he addressed key decisions from the first four Scottish Premiership matches.

Collum acknowledged some errors by officials, and one of the most prevalent was referee Ross Hardie’s choice to award Cyriel Dessers' goal during Rangers' 6-0 victory over Ross County at Hampden Park on August 24.

Collum acknowledged that the initial challenge by Tom Lawrence should’ve been punished as a foul but went on to point out that "there are far too many passes" between the foul and the ball hitting the net, concluding that it was not part of the same attacking phase of play and that’s why VAR was unable to intervene.

Madden officiated his fair share of Scottish top-flight matches so is well placed to comment on such matter, and he believes Don Cowie’s County were pretty hard done by at the national stadium.

"Massive step forward and SFA finally seen the light," Madden shared via an Instagram story.

"Hopefully the real big incidents are reviewed consistently.

“I have to say I disagree with Rangers goal v Ross County. IMO you can't win possession when fouling and then go on to score.

“35 seconds and 11 passes later the goal is scored. Yes, the APP doesn't necessarily have to go back to when the scoring team take possession, but when they win the ball by committing a foul I think you have to."
