Bo Nix had a funny reaction to his sideline beef with Sean Payton

In the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Fox cameras captured Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix getting into a heated argument with coach Sean Payton on the sideline.

The Broncos were winning 20-10 at that point of the game and they went on to win 34-18. After the victory, Nix was asked about the incident.

“Yeah, well, he turned and looked at me and said, ‘I love you,’ and I turned and said, ‘I love you’ back,” Nix joked.

Payton said in his postgame press conference that Nix had flipped a play that he was not supposed to, and he joked that the rookie quarterback has “a bit of Ferris Bueller” in him that Payton wants to eliminate.

Nix was asked in his post-game presser if the argument was about flipping the play.

“It was a simple play,” Nix said. “We had it flipped. He wanted it to the boundary and we just kind of got confused there in the huddle. So I tried to get things right — we ended up having it, it had a chance, and I overthrew it, but that’s part of the game sometimes.”

Nix threw a deep pass to wide receiver Troy Franklin, who wasn’t able to haul it in for a score. The quarterback then had a fiery exchange with his coach on the sideline, something Nix downplayed after the win.

“We’re just out there with great intensity and fire and we can have those conversations and move right back along and score another few touchdowns,” Nix said. “It doesn’t bother us.”

Nix finished the game with a 70.4% completion rate for 206 yards with two touchdown passes, one touchdown run and no turnovers. Cleary, his bout with Payton on the sideline did not have a negative impact on the offense.
