Veteran actor Bo Hopkins has died at the age of 80 after suffering a heart attack.
The star passed away in hospital in Van Nuys, Los Angeles with his wife Sian confirming to The Hollywood Reporter he had had a heart attack on May 9.
The star had an illustrious career spanning seven decades and was best known for his role in American Graffiti, where he played the role of gang leader Joe.
Prior to his appearance on the hit crime movie, Hopkins had appeared on other big titles such as The Wild Bunch, Midnight Express, The Getaway and Posse.
He also featured on the small screen, taking up roles on series such as Hawaii Five-O, Mod Squad, Dynasty, Charlie's Angels and Murder, She Wrote.
His role as a bad guy switched in 1999 when Quentin Tarantino cast him as a good guy in Dusk to Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money.
As well as acting on screen, Hopkins was tasked with voice acting in several roles, but will be best remembered for his role as a gun-slinging character.
His last performance came alongside Glenn Close and Amy Adams on 202's Hillbilly Elegy.
Following the news of his death, fans and famous faces took to social media to share messages of condolence.
Close shared a snap of the pair to her Instagram and wrote: "Just heard that the wonderful Bo Hopkins died peacefully, early this morning, with his devoted wife, Sian, holding his hand.
"It was a great privilege to work with Bo in HILLBILLY ELEGY. He was an actor to his core and put his heart into every take. He was a gentleman and a gentle man.
"He may have once, during his early days, around the time of AMERICAN GRAFFITI, been one of the bad boys, but I got acquainted and enjoyed the company of a man with a twinkle in his eye and the heart of a knight.
Good night, sweet Bo, May you Rest In Peace. With love, Your Mamaw."
Writer and actor Matt Oswalt wrote on Twitter : "RIP Bo Hopkins. Even if you don't recognize the name I'm sure you've seen him. American Graffiti, Midnight Express, Wild Bunch to name a few.
"His IMDB page is like a CVS receipt of great character actor parts."
A fan of the star also shared two photos of herself with him and wrote: "Devastated. Bo Hopkins has passed away. As a 70s kid, I grew up w/him.
"As an 80s chick, I loved him on Dynasty. My life was made when I met him. In the first pic, he had just said 'Don't faint on me honey I got a bad back & won't be able to catch you.' RIP. Thanks for everything."

As well as his wife, Hopkins is survived by his children, Matthew and Jane.
