A Bolton man was arrested after his BMW ploughed into a lamppost and landed in a tree. The crash, in Billington, Lancashire, saw the car hit the lamppost, which ended up 'around 30ft' from its original position, according to police.
Lancashire Police said the man, 26, was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs. He had walked away from the scene but was later arrested and remains in custody for questioning.
The crash occurred at around 11pm on Saturday (October 29). Pictures shared by the force show the blue BMW leaning downwards into the bushes after the crash.
And police went on to note 'how much protection modern cars can offer us' after announcing the driver had walked away from the scene.
An update from Ribble Valley Police said: "At 11 o'clock last night a 26 year old male from Bolton was arrested for driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs in Billington. The below image is a testament to just how much protection modern cars can offer us.
"You will notice a lamp post at the front of the vehicle, this was transported around 30 feet from its original location and deposited in this tree. The driver walked away!! That is until we took him away. He is now awaiting interview in Preston Custody."
