BMW convertible drifts out to sea after driver parked car on the beach

Footage of a convertible BMW being washed out to sea after parking on a beach has been shared online.

The video shows the car beginning to drift away as a coastguard jokes "you can't park there!"

The vehicle, which is believed to be a E93 soft top, was filmed being carried away off Trevaunance Beach, Cornwall, yesterday morning (Sunday), Hull Live reports.

St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue Team said they were called to the beauty spot at around 8.30am, where they first made sure there was no one in the car. Their teams then remained on scene whilst recovery efforts took place, before the sports car was finally removed by a tow truck off the beach.

People were quick to poke fun at the BMW’s owner’s woes on social media, with the footage shared hundreds of times on Facebook.

One person joked: “The lengths some people will go to to avoid the £3 car park fee!”

Another added: “Did someone forget to tell the tide that BMWs can park anywhere they want?” while a third said: “Honestly, how do you keep a straight face and not point and laugh at them.”

One commented: “I hope St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue Team send them a bill to cover all their costs plus a large donation!! Complete waste of their time and resources.”

Another said: “Why? Why? Why??? Such a waste of time and resources, this makes me sooooo cross!”

A spokesperson from St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue said: “Team tasked to the Trevaunance Beach car wash to make sure all occupants were out of the vehicle and safe.

"We remained on scene whilst recovery efforts were made and the vehicle was finally removed. Team stood down and returned to station at 1019hrs."

They added: “You can’t park there sir!”
