Two gunshot victims have relived the moment a man allegedly fired bullets through a closed door inside their home, striking one in the arm and another in the leg.
The man and woman, who cannot be identified, were at a house in Gateshead in the early hours of September 21, 2023, when they were allegedly ambushed in a calculated drug rip.
Emmett Sheard and Dakota Rhianne Clarke are facing a three-week trial in Newcastle District Court accused of attempting to murder the man and wounding the woman in the process.
Sheard and Clarke have pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court heard they each denied being at the Lake Macquarie home that night or having any involvement in the alleged double shooting.
The man and woman gave evidence on Tuesday detailing how the alleged events unfolded in the early hours.
The woman told the court she woke about 12.30am and asked her partner what he was doing up, and he replied that he was waiting for one more person to drop in.
She said she later heard a knock at the door, muffled voices, furniture being moved and shouting, so she got up to find out what was happening.
She said her partner was holding the hallway door closed and she believed it was Sheard on the other side, who she knew on a first-name basis, so she went to "tell the little c---t to f--- off".
But then she said she heard a noise like a party popper and thought "this c--t has f---ing shot me".
"I felt red-hot on my leg ... I looked down and blood was spurting all over the walls, everywhere," she said.
She said she then heard another sound and saw blood "pissing" on the wall and down the man's arm.
The woman said the pair went into a bedroom, where she alleged a rifle was poked through the door before it gave way.
She said Sheard pointed the rifle "straight at" her face but the man managed to shift it and it fired into a wall.
Prosecutors allege the rifle was fired multiple times during the alleged ordeal inside the home just before 2.30am.
The woman said Sheard and his companion, who prosecutors allege was Clarke, fled with a bag containing two caps of the drug MDMA.
The woman's triple zero call was played for the jury. Police and paramedics attended the scene and the man and woman were taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.
The man told the court during his evidence that he was selling drugs from the Gateshead home to make money at the time.
He said he knew Sheard and received a message from him on the app Signal to arrange a purchase.
The man alleged Sheard turned up with a woman before pulling a "long rifle" from his tracksuit pants once inside.
"He pointed it towards me, like towards my head," the man said.
"He said give me your f---ing drugs and money."
He said the gun was fired but hit a wall and he rushed to the hallway and closed the door.
"I heard a funny noise and then I looked and there was a big hole in my arm," he said.
The man also described the woman being shot in the leg through the hallway door, the rifle poking through the bedroom door, and the gunman and his companion entering before fleeing.
Sheard's defence barrister Robert Cavanagh told the court there was no DNA or fingerprint evidence linking him to what happened at the home.
He said Sheard denied being there, denied being involved and denied sending the man a message to arrange a drug purchase.
Clarke's defence barrister Ben Bickford said her case was that she was not there and did not participate in the shooting.
The accused have each pleaded not guilty to two alternative charges each of discharging a firearm with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The trial continues.
