Gaming giant Blizzard is set to offer fans the chance to win a gaming PC infused with 'real human blood' as well as top-of-the-range specifications.
Blizzard, the developer behind global hits such as Diablo 4 and World of Warcraft, did not specify how much human blood will be in the final gaming PC or how it will look.
But early pics seem to indicate the 'blood' could be in the PC’s transparent cooling system, which stops hardware like processors from overheating from overuse, so the blood flowing through the machine would be transparent and visible to the naked eye.
However, due to hygiene, legal, and technical issues, Blizzard will likely instead opt to use red colouring for most of the effect, with a small drop of blood or plasma somewhere in the machine to fulfil the promise.
Other celebrity promotions such as “Old Town Road” rapper Lil Nas X’s “Blood Sneakers” or "Satan Shoes", a collaboration with Nike, have deployed similar approaches to delivering shock marketing.
Aside from bringing a unique aesthetic to your gaming den, the PC will contain NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090, Intel Core i9 CPU, 64GB of DDR5 RAM, 3 TB SSD Storage, Quantum Vector GPU Waterblock, far in excess of what is required to play most modern games.
The catch is that Blizzard expects its fans to give over 666 quarts of blood between 20 October and 20 November.
Players, who will need to be over the age of 18 and based in the United States, can visit any blood donation centre, donate their blood, and log into Blizzard's online portal to validate their contribution.
Once the minimum volume of donations is reached, Blizzard will release more details about the sweepstake, including eligibility requirements.
If saving lives isn’t enough of an incentive, Diablo 4 players who sign up for the scheme will also receive access to a variety of blood-themed item skins, including bloody axes, swords, and a horse with red blood eyes.
Unfortunately, the scheme is not set to come to the UK as of yet.
