Blind dog desperate for new owner 'who will give him endless cuddles'

He only has love to give - but has been struggling to secure a new home due to his disability. Six-year-old Braille is up for adoption with Blind Dog Rescue UK - and while not much is known about his past, he has been described as a very "happy and friendly boy".

The crossbreed is currently living with a foster family in Portugal - but will be flown over to the UK once a new family comes forward for him. The team at Blind Dog Rescue UK said: "Braille is a friendly and loveable boy. He gets excited about treats, and likes human attention.

"He is currently in a foster home and has shown a tendency to protect his food so he would need to be fed separately to other dogs in the home. He has been on a lead but does need a little direction. "

As he is completely blind, he would like to live in a small, relaxed home with owners who can take him on "short walks and give him lots of cuddles".

His foster carers said: "He is adorable. Learns the routines fast, he did not pee inside after the second night. He memorises the area so he does not fall over. He loves to be on your lap, and plays well with other dogs."

Blind Dog Rescue UK works to rehome blind and partially sighted dogs who have been subjected to the "worst of humanity yet still have an astonishing capacity to adapt, love and become perfect ambassadors for blind dogs everywhere".

Many of the dogs in their care have been victims of abuse, neglect, disease or trauma - and struggle to survive in shelters.

A Blind Dog Rescue UK statement reads: "It is incredibly difficult for sighted dogs to survive any length of time in these shelters let alone blind or partially sighted dogs.

"We need to get to these dogs quickly and secure their immediate release and treatment.

"These dogs may have been deliberately blinded, involved in road traffic accidents or long term sufferers of painful conditions such as glaucoma.

"They need veterinary care and to be given the safety and comfort of a foster home in which to start healing.

"Here they are given love and affection and a warm bed - possibly the first they will have experienced in their lifetimes."
