Blidworth man attacked 2 people on his drunken Boxing Day birthday

One reveller's drunken birthday night out landed him in the cells after he violently assaulted two people. Nikki Clamp went to the Jolly Rodger Social Club, in New Ollerton, for his 36th birthday on Boxing Day.

But things turned sour when he assaulted the assistant bar manager Luke Smith. Mr Smith would not allow Clamp back inside with a drink in his hand, Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard on Wednesday (December 28).

After verbal toing and froing between the men, Clamp chucked his drink in Mr Smith's face, injuring his teeth with the glass. Then, when police arrived, Clamp said he was going to faint and refused to walk.

Officers moved him to a police van, with his legs hanging over the side door. As one tried to help place his legs in the vehicle, Clamp drew his left leg back and 'at full force', according to the officer, 'aimed a boot at my face, striking me in the face'.

Clamp, of Hillside Road, Blidworth, pleaded guilty to assault, causing bodily harm, to Mr Smith, and assault by beating to a policewoman who had been helping him. His headline sentence was 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, 15 rehabilitation activity days, and no separate penalty for possessing cocaine on his birthday.

He was ordered to pay £200 compensation the the policewoman and £1,000 compensation to Mr Smith, and he was barred from the Jolly Rodger, Forest Road, for a year. Mitigating, Simon King told magistrates : "What happened on Boxing Day...it was my client's birthday. He went out, and I think everyone can agree, he had too much to drink, and that is the cause of his problem."

The first assault was 'a question of throwing the contents but, unfortunately, the glass itself goes as well', added Mr King. Clamp accepted he was kicking out after his arrest and 'in doing so, he has kicked out and hit the police officer', continued Mr King.

At the police station after arrest, Clamp was bitterly remorseful. When he heard what had happened, he broke down in tears. "In interview, he said he was appalled and disgusted in his behaviour and cannot apologise enough for it," said Mr King.
