Damian Lillard had one of the best scoring nights in NBA history on Sunday night when he dropped 71 points against the Rockets, but the NBA appeared to be a little suspicious of the Trail Blazers star’s performance. Immediately after the game, Lillard was required to take a blood-drawn drug test.
When speaking to reporters afterward, the seven-time All-Star addressed the drug test and said it was the first time he had been tested immediately after a game. He also shared he has a bit of a phobia.
“I was like, ‘Are y’all serious?’” Lillard said. “I did the urine test yesterday, and then they backed it up with the blood-drawn tonight after the game—that’s actually my first time in my career being tested after a game.
“And then aside from that, they know that I’m scared of needles,” he added. “I know I got a lot of tattoos, but when you doing a blood draw it’s different than tattoos.”
Lillard became just the eighth person in NBA history to score at least 70 points in a game, but he said the blood draw took him down a couple pegs after the special night.
