More than 25 firefighters tackled a blaze at a cigarette smoker’s flat in west London.
Fifteen people were evacuated as flames destroyed part of a ground floor apartment in an end of terrace house on St Luke’s Road, Notting Hill.
One woman was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service suffering from burns.
The blaze is believed to have been accidental, caused by unsafe use of smoking materials , London Fire Brigade said.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire at around 11am on Thursday.
A spokesman added: “If you’re a smoker, it’s absolutely vital you ensure your cigarette is completely out when you’ve finished smoking it.
“If you don’t, you risk causing a fire which could not only destroy your home but also cost you your life.

The brigade’s 999 control officers took the first of five calls and sent four engines and around 25 firefighters from North Kensington, Hammersmith, Euston and Paddington to the scene. The fire was under control by 12.13pm.
It issued safety tips including the proper use of ashtrays, which can’t tip over and allow cigarettes to be stubbed out properly.
LFB say it’s safer to smoke outside, and people should take extra care when tired, taking prescription drugs or drinking alcohol.
Smokers are urged not to leave lit cigarettes unattended.
