CPI(M) worker killed, another injured in blast during bomb-making in Kerala’s Kannur district

A Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) worker was killed and another party activist was severely injured in a crude bomb blast at Muliyathode under the Panoor police station limits in Kannur district of Kerala in the early hours of April 5. The explosion is believed to have occurred during the process of making bombs.

The deceased has been identified as Sherin (31), a resident of Kaivelikal at Panoor in Kannur. The other injured person is Vineesh (24). Both were active members of the CPI(M). Vineesh, son of a local committee leader, suffered critical injuries and is on a ventilator. Both victims were initially admitted to hospitals in Kannur before being transferred to a private hospital in Kozhikode, according to sources.

The blast, which rocked the vicinity near the Muliyathode wood mill around 1 a.m., prompted locals to rush to the scene, who transported the victims to hospital.

Reports suggest that more persons may have been injured in the incident.

The police have conducted an inspection of the area to gather evidence.
