Blackburn Rovers manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has admitted he still does not know whether Ben Brereton-Diaz will be at the club by the end of the transfer window. Brereton-Diaz has been linked to a host of Premier League clubs including Leeds United, though there has been very little in the way of concrete offers.
Reports claim that Rovers value the Chile international at around £20 million following his superb season for both club and country in 2021/22. And Brereton-Diaz has shown no signs of the speculation affecting his performances, having started the season in fine form.
He has netted two goals in the opening three Championship games, with Blackburn the only side in the division still to have a 100% record. Leeds boss Jesse Marsch has insisted the club are still ‘evaluating’ the market for strikers, with Brereton-Diaz among the names to have been linked.
Speaking to Lancashire Live after the win against West Brom, Dahl Tomasson revealed he is still unsure what will happen. He said: “He is doing a tremendous job but at the end of the day, money will decide what happens.”
That said, given how long Leeds have been studying the market, it feels as though the club are looking elsewhere if they do indeed decide to sign someone. Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt’s injuries last week may have accelerated their efforts to bring in a new striker, but Leeds will only make their move for what they think is the perfect player in Marsch’s system.
