Black to Black's Marisa Abela 'a weeping mess' as she announces her engagement to West End star

Back to Black actress Marisa Abela has announced her engagement to West End performer Jamie Bogyo.

The 27-year-old, who portrayed Amy Winehouse in the biopic released in April, got engaged on London's Primrose Hill in a spot that was loved by the late singer.

"She said she’ll think about it," 31-year-old theatre star Bogyo wrote alongside a video of the moment on Instagram. The clip showed the couple  smiling, with Marisa flaunting a sparkling ring on her finger.

Responding to her fiancé, the Industry actress commented: "A weeping mess."

Bogyo, currently starring as Christian in the West End's Moulin Rouge revival, also posted several pictures of the pair, including of them sharing a passionate kiss, which the actress re-shared on her Instagram page.

Their announcement was met with a flood of congratulations, including a note from "Hunger Games" actor Sam Claflin, who commented: "you guys ."

The news comes on the heels of harsh criticism about Abela's performance as Winehouse.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the biopic holds a low critic score of 34 percent, although the audience rating is a much more favourable 86 percent.

Sam Taylor-Johnson, the director, defended the film in an interview with Metro.co.uk.

She said: “Go see it, is, I think, the smartest thing for me to say to that because I think it’s very hard to judge from a photograph or stories.

“If you go see the film, I think you’ll understand what I wanted to do was to celebrate and uphold her.

‘And I think that people will enjoy the music.”
