(AP) — The Black Conservative Federation’s honors gala in downtown Columbia last weekend brought together around 500 Black conservative lawmakers, activists, pundits, and donors for a formal affair. The event featured guest of honor Donald Trump, who received a “Champion of Black America” award amidst enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Trump's remarks, characterized by freewheeling comments, were met with divergent reactions. While attendees celebrated his presence, Democrats and Black community leaders condemned his statements. The event highlighted the challenges faced by Black GOP activists in garnering support from Black voters, who still hold negative views of the GOP according to recent polling.
