What do you want from a gig, you people? What do you really want? This reviewer can’t be the only one to feel a little numbed out by the polished state of shows right now.
I missed the Radiohead show at the O2 recently and was quite gutted until I saw the footage. It looked like an excellent, truly accomplished performance by one of the greatest bands around... but also indicative of what shows have become, which is a musical accompaniment to the video screens and lighting design. A grand spectacle for sure, yet one almost made for people to gawp at and film rather than lose themselves in the moment.
