A Black Lives Matter activist from Rhode Island has made headlines by announcing his intention to vote for former President Trump in the upcoming election. Mark Fisher, who claims to be a co-founder of Black Lives Matter Rhode Island, stated that he will not be supporting Vice President Kamala Harris and believes that her rise to power would be detrimental to the country.
Fisher cited the lack of progress in black communities, including issues with urban school districts, crime, and poverty, as reasons why black voters should reconsider their loyalty to the Democratic Party. He criticized the party for not providing sufficient justification for the unwavering support it receives from black voters.
This is not the first time Fisher has expressed his support for Trump, having initially endorsed him in November 2023. Fisher believes that the Democratic Party does not truly understand Trump and his history, leading to a disconnect between the party and black voters.
However, the national Black Lives Matter organization and Black Lives Matter Rhode Island PAC have distanced themselves from Fisher, labeling his endorsement of Trump as a mere publicity stunt. They accused the right-wing of exploiting fringe black voices to create a false impression of widespread support for their candidates.
In response to Fisher's statements, Black Lives Matter Rhode Island PAC clarified that Fisher has never been associated with their organization. The controversy surrounding Fisher's endorsement of Trump highlights the diversity of opinions within the Black Lives Matter movement and the complexities of political allegiances among its members.
