Around 200 people were reportedly placed under medical observation in Russia after a laboratory worker died following an alleged accident involving plague bacteria at an institute in Irkutsk on 25 September.
The worker, 28-year-old Darya Shipilova, reportedly broke a test tube containing live Yersinia pestis while handling samples at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute. Independent news outlet Baikal People reported the incident and subsequent hospital quarantine measures across the surrounding region.
