Black Country engineering firm acquires East Midlands consultancy

A Black Country engineering firm has acquired an East Midlands rival. Wintech has bought Avus Consulting which it says will boost its net zero ambitions.

Wolverhampton-based Wintech specialises in façade engineering which includes access and fire and sustainability consultancy.

Avus Consulting is headquartered in Corby and is a building services engineering practice, established in 2003 from the design wing of a contracting company.

Wintech said the acquisition was primarily driven by Avus' client-centric approach aligning with its own ambition to support the nation's net-zero building goals and to prepare the business for the challenges ahead. The newly enlarged group now has 100 employees.

Managing director Paul Savidge said: "We pride ourselves on our collaborative approach that fosters strong partnerships with our valued clients.

"As a team, we thrive on our innate problem-solving abilities, driven by our shared commitment to be catalysts for change in achieving net zero across the UK's built environment.

"We appreciate there's a great challenge ahead to ensure all buildings, both refurbished and newbuild, can deliver on net-zero targets. As an industry, we owe it to our communities to be proactive and make a real difference with actions, not words.

"This acquisition is an essential part of that process toward making a significant and lasting difference. This move demonstrates our ambition, commitment and dedication to support new and existing Wintech clients and will bring a range of new capabilities and skills to support not only Wintech but Avus' clientele.

"It will strengthen Wintech's thriving consulting services and will support the teams' growth in the UK."

AVUS Consulting's managing director Martin Fern made the decision to sell the business as part of his retirement plans, with principal engineer Sarah Southgate taking on the role of overseeing Wintech's mechanical and electrical division.

Ms Southgate added: "This is an exciting time for Avus. The support and growth opportunities provided by Wintech will enable us to continue to support our existing clients while greatly expanding our sustainability offering.

"We are thrilled to join forces with Wintech and combine their extensive resources with our specialised knowledge in M&E, to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions that will make a tangible impact in creating energy-efficient buildings for a greener future.

"This move not only enhances our capabilities but also signifies our shared commitment to proactive action and making a real difference in the industry and the communities we serve."
