BJP’s Nadda rules out changing Himachal CM

Bharatiya Janata Party President J.P. Nadda on Sunday ruled out change of guard in the Himachal Pradesh government, asserting that Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur would continue to be at the helm of affairs.

At a press conference in Shimla, Mr. Nadda said there was no possibility of replacing Mr. Thakur from his position. “The government is performing well with full strength under the able leadership of Mr. Jai Ram Thakur and in the future as well it will continue to do so,” said Mr. Nadda.

Aam Aadmi Party leader and Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia had stated that the BJP was scared of the AAP and was likely to replace incumbent Chief Minister with Union Cabinet Minister Anurag Thakur in the run-up to the Assembly polls, which were due later this year.

‘Power not goal’

Mr. Nadda said that for the BJP, power was not a goal, but a medium to serve the people. “The BJP governments work towards solving the unresolved questions and keep working in the interest of the society,” he said.

Ahead of the Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh, the BJP had earlier this week started a mass contact programme ( Mahasampark abhiyan) in an attempt to mobilise its cadres and garner people’s support.

“Our Mahasampark abhiyan is going to run till April 30, during which efforts will be made to know whether the government schemes are reaching the people properly or not. We will go to the booth level and deliberate. Later, in April, the party’s village centre conferences will be held. Between May 15 and June 15, ‘Panna Pramukh’ conferences would be held across the State. We also plan to hold ‘Rath Yatras’ in all the parliamentary constituencies of the State,” said Mr. Nadda.
