Björk, Happy Mondays and Tears for Fears to draw early morning queues at hmv

Björk, Tears for Fears and S Club 7 are among the artists taking part in hmv’s Vinyl Week, with exclusive new editions of classic albums available for collectors. The entertainment retailer’s Vinyl Week begins on Saturday, June 18, with Exclusives Day, when the 20 new records will drop in-stores. Last year saw queues outside more than 100 hmv stores across the UK as fans sought to get their hands on the coveted records.

This year’s drop includes an exclusive splatter edition of influential ‘Madchester’ band Happy Mondays’ Pills ‘N’ Thrills and Bellyaches, as well as a specially curated Now That’s What I Call hmv compilation of some of the most important tracks since the retailer first launched more than 100 years ago. Desmond Dekker, The Kinks, Alison Moyet, 808 State, Human League and The Proclaimers are among the other acts with records in the drop. The drop also includes the first ever vinyl pressing of any of S Club 7’s albums, in the form of Sunshine.

A small amount of vinyl will go live online at 4pm on June 18 – though hmv is advising fans to head into stores for the best chance of nabbing the exclusives. For those who want to bolster their collections even further, there will be a huge 30% off flash sale on selected vinyl both in stores and online at hmv.com/store from midnight on Saturday 18 June, ending at 23:55pm on Sunday 19 June.

Fans who want to shop online should take advantage of the "Notify Me When In Stock" feature on hmv.com/store to be notified as soon as the records go on sale. Phil Halliday, Managing Director at hmv and Fopp, said: “Last year we were blown away by the reaction to hmv’s Vinyl Week, with many fans camping overnight to make sure they got their hands on our exclusive records.

“This year the line-up is incredible, with new vinyl from Bjork, Tears for Fears and Happy Mondays among many, many more.

“In what is hmv’s 100 th year on the high street, we’re continuing to see vinyl grow – drawing younger collectors who want to browse for records with a like-minded community of music fans. Vinyl is the best way to hear a record how the artist intended, and for true music fans that’s an experience that can’t be beaten.

“Since restrictions lifted, we’ve seen footfall increase as the world gets back to normal. It’s given us the confidence to keep opening stores, putting vinyl front and centre as shoppers seek out retail experiences they can’t get via a website.”

All records will be presented with an hmv exclusive limited-edition obi strip and are available in limited runs.
