Bizarre video shows man playing Jesus on a cross in Dublin on Good Friday

A bizarre scene showing a man playing Jesus Christ on a cross in a Dublin church went viral on Friday.

The clip, posted on TikTok, shows a man dressed as Jesus, wearing a bloodied tunic, sandals and crown of thorns on his head.

He is filmed standing with his arms outstretched on a cross at the entrance to St Catherine's Church on Meath Street in the city centre.

The man is believed to have been an actor as part of a 'Passion Play' which is held on Good Friday at 3pm, which depicts the trial, suffering and death of Jesus Christ.

The person filming the video is heard saying: "Well people, we're in Meath Street here in Dublin 8, they're doing the Good Friday mass.

"But they actually have a bloke up at the front as if he's on a crucifix.

"It's a real fella up on a crucifix on the doors on the way into the church for the mass. They done a play and all that just before the mass.

"This is Dublin, what a day, what a [city]."

The video was posted to TikTok by @thisisdublin on Friday and has already received has over 11,000 views and received hundreds of comments.

One person wrote: "Jesus christ saw it all now... This is Dublin!!!"

Another claimed that he had family connections to the Passion Play, writing: "My granddad plays [Judas] in the play every year.."

Meanwhile, another person corrected the person filming, telling him it that the scene wasn't for a mass, writing: "No masses anywhere in the world on Good Friday lad."
