Birds Bakery unveils plans for new store at 'exciting new location' at Teal Park in Netherfield

Birds Bakery has unveiled plans for its 63rd store in the East Midlands – bringing its much-loved selection of baked family favourites to Teal Park in Netherfield. Birds joins a number of household names on the expanding business park, situated off the A612 Colwick Loop Road, which includes the newly-opened Aldi.

The site is also home to a new school and children’s day nursery. The deal, brokered by FHP Property Consultants, will see Birds Bakery open a new 1,200 ft² store on the business park in early September, creating eight new jobs.

Birds Bakery was founded in 1919 and has been providing sweet and savoury treats to families in Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire ever since. Teal Park is the company’s 25th site in Nottinghamshire, with stores also in Wollaton, Sherwood, Arnold, Mapperley, Clifton and the Victoria Centre.

Last year, Birds launched its 62nd outlet, opening its doors on Melton Road in West Bridgford. The new Teal Park store will feature the usual mix of Birds Bakery classics, including the caramel doughnut and cream puff, a hot food counter serving food on the go, including sausage and bacon cobs and rolls filled with the roast of the day, as well as coffee from Nottingham’s own 200 Degrees. The unit will also have a small amount of seating for those wanting to eat in.

Mike Holling, sales and marketing director at Birds Bakery, said: “Teal Park is an exciting new location for us and we’re looking forward to being part of a growing community. After the last few years, it’s great to see so many new businesses opening their doors in the area and we can’t wait to join them and, of course, welcome eight new people to the Birds team.

“We will be focusing our offering on food to go, with delicious, freshly made hot and filled rolls, savoury snacks and sweet treats. We will once again be partnering with 200 Degrees for our coffee offering, which has proven incredibly popular in many of our other stores and shows our commitment to working with other local businesses and suppliers.

“The new opening forms part of our expansion plans, with discussions about more new stores in other locations across the East Midlands already underway.” Teal Park, where the likes of Toolstation, Screwfix and Howdens have opened, is next to the vast Rivendell housing estate, near the Victoria Retail Park. The housing development has been described as a 'mini-city' by a council leader and more than 800 properties are expected to be built in total. The estate has been named Rivendell as a nod to the area's link with the Lord of the Rings.
