The Republican members of the task force include Chairman Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania, Mark Green of Tennessee, David Joyce of Ohio, Laurel Lee of Florida, Michael Waltz of Florida, Clay Higgins of Louisiana, and Pat Fallon of Texas. Chairman Kelly, who hails from Butler, Pennsylvania, where the assassination attempt occurred, authored the resolution to establish the bipartisan task force.
Democratic Members
The Democratic members of the task force include Ranking Member Jason Crow of Colorado, Lou Correa of California, Madeleine Dean of Pennsylvania, Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania, Glenn Ivey of Maryland, and Jared Moskowitz of Florida. Representative Crow, a member of the House Intelligence and House Foreign Affairs committees, played a significant role in Trump's first impeachment trial.
Task Force Mandate
The House voted to create the bipartisan task force, which will issue a final report by December 13, 2024, with recommendations for legislative reforms to enhance security measures and prevent future security lapses. The resolution received overwhelming bipartisan support with a vote of 416 to 0.
Empowered Task Force
The task force is empowered to issue interim reports as needed and has the authority to conduct depositions and issue subpoenas to gather essential information for its investigation. Lawmakers are committed to seeking answers and ensuring accountability following the recent assassination attempt on the 2024 Republican presidential candidate.
