Bins latest as Ayrshire council axes all collections amid strike action

Bin strikes across East and South Ayrshire are now hitting household waste collections.

Both councils said they were concentrating on household waste, but the strike action is now impacting all collections.

South Ayrshire Council has cancelled all collections, while East Ayrshire will collect household waste on a reduced service, with updates on collections each day at 9am on their website.

A South Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “We are currently not collecting any bins.

“If you have a scheduled green bin / green lidded bin collection between Wednesday, August 24, and Thursday, September 1, please don’t put your green bin out.

“From September 1, we will concentrate on making arrangements to collect any missed green bins and will update you as soon as we can.”

The Household Waste Recycling Centre at Heathfield, Ayr is open from 7am during the strike, but must be booked. All other recycling centres are closed.

East Ayrshire Council carried out limited household waste collections in Todhill Avenue and Waddell Court, New Farm Loch and Southcraigs today (Thursday).

But residents in Drongan, Hollybush, Patna, Polnessan, and Rankinston will not be collected.

An East Ayrshire Council spokesperson said:” Please do not put out your recycling trolley for collection. Save your recycling and present it bagged with your trolley on your next scheduled collection day.

“Please do not put out your garden waste bin or commercial waste bin for collection. Arrangements will be made to collect your bins as soon as possible and as resources allow.

“Your household waste bin will be collected as soon as possible and as resources allow.”

The recycling centres at Garlaff, Cumnock and Western Road, Kilmarnock will remain open and appointments can be made online.
