Bindi Irwin shares sweet tribute to dad Steve Irwin on his would-be 60th birthday

Steve Irwin's daughter has paid an emotional tribute to her "wildlife warrior" dad on what would have been his 60th birthday.

Bindi Irwin, 23, shared a sweet snap of her as a youngster with her dad to her Instagram and said she loved him"with all my heart".

She also promised that his legacy lived on as fans quickly showed their own appreciation in the comments section.

The environmentalist and TV presenter was known worldwide as The Crocodile Hunter.

Bindi wrote on her post: "Happy Birthday to the greatest dad and Wildlife Warrior.

"Today I'll watch 'The Crocodile Hunter' with Grace Warrior and share stories about her incredible Grandpa Crocodile.

"I love you with all my heart. Your legacy lives on."

She shared a selection of other images of her dad, mum and brother to her Instagram Stories.

Teen actress Emmy Perry commented on the post, saying: "Heroes never leave, they live on forever in the hearts and minds of those who would follow in their footsteps". He lives on through you and your family and lights this world with the same effervescence he will always have!"

Bindi has followed in the footsteps of her late dad by becoming an environmentalist and TV personality.

She is married to Chandler Powell, with whom she shares a daughter, Grace.

Chandler also commented on his wife's post, simply posting a love heart emoji.

Bindi also shared the same post on Twitter and her mum, and Steve's wife, Terri Irwin retweeted her post.

Steve and Terri's son Robert also shared a throwback snap of him and his dad as the late star took the then toddler on a ride on his motorbike.

He wrote: "Happy birthday Dad. Love & miss you every day. My earliest memories are my fondest thanks to you.

"Hanging on to the handlebars of the motorbike, on your morning lap of the zoo. Every minute with you was a blessing.

"I’m gonna ride that lap on your old motorbike this afternoon."

Steve died in 2006 after being pierced in the chest by a stingray barb.

Australia Zoo celebrates Steve Irwin Day annually in November. The day was chosen because it aligns with the birthday of one of Steve’s favourite animals, a tortoise from the Galápagos Islands named Harriet who lived to be 175.

On the website for the celebration, it says: "As wildlife warriors, we believe that every life is worth rescuing. We believe that anyone can be a Wildlife Warrior. We believe khaki is not just a colour – it’s an attitude!

"We believe that if you save one – you can save the species. We believe that even kids can make a difference. We believe in living the motto each day – KHAKI IT! Remember, anyone can make a difference. All you have to do is KHAKI IT!"
