Billy Ray Cyrus has shared what he claims is a hand-written note from estranged wife Firerose pleading with him to take her back two days after he filed for divorce.
The writer of the letter implores the Achy Breaky Heart singer, 62, that they try to "work this out" and states "I miss you".
This latest plot twist comes after the 35-year-old Australian singer - real name Joanna Rosie Hodes - accused Cyrus of "extreme verbal, emotional and psychological abuse" during their relationship.
Cyrus initially filed papers in a Tennessee court on May 22, citing irreconcilable differences and “inappropriate marital conduct”.
He was further seeking an annulment due to alleged fraud on Firerose part, saying in the filing that he would not have married Hodges “had he known” about the alleged fraud.
According to papers viewed by TMZ, he gave her a deadline of May 24 to leave his home while also initially putting up $500/night over a period of ten days for temporary housing.
The US news outlet then reported that Cyrus is set to pay Firerose $5,000 (£3,922.90) per month for her to find suitable housing in Tennessee for 90 days or until the divorce is finalised.
Firerose is said to have responded on June 14 with a divorce filing of her own that accused the country star of domestic abuse, including “extreme verbal, emotional and psychological abuse.”
Now, People claim Cyrus responded and filed a complaint as part of a supplement to his initial annulment and divorce complaint.
Along with alleging Firerose "had been conducting a campaign to isolate" him from his family and blocked him from communicating with a daughter since the May filing, Cyrus also provided an alleged handwritten note from Firerose via his lawyers, which the US publication has published a copy of.
The note reads: “I miss you more than I can possibly explain in words Baby,” the alleged note provided by Cyrus' lawyers and obtained by PEOPLE reads. “Please let’s work this out and not become anything but closer out of this hellish experience.”
“I need you. I love you. I am so sorry,” it added.
In a statement issued by Cyrus’ legal representatives Rose Palermo and Jason Talley of Cheatham Palermo and Garrett to People on June 18, they claim Cyrus “discovered a handwritten note” from Firerose “professing her love and need to be with Mr. Cyrus” when he returned to his home two days after Firerose “was required, by Court Order, to vacate his residence of over 25 years.”
They further claim that Firerose allegedly sent a text message to their client “shortly after she was required to vacate his premarital residence.”
