Billy Gilmour views Rangers as a 'step back' reckons former Ibrox defender Alan Hutton.
Many of the Rangers persuasion have touted the young Scotland international for a return to the club he spent his youth at, after Gilmour seemed to find game time at Brighton difficult. Roberto de Zerbi has only handed the 21-year-old two starts so far in the Premier League and he hasn't featured for the Seagulls since February.
A popular figure among Scotland fans, Gilmour deserves more game time and has a lot to give claims Hutton but he reckons finances and the player's own wishes would make a return to Ibrox improbable. He is urging the midfielder to make his next move carefully as he searches for an important role.
He told Football Insider: “You never know. I think the money situation is going to determine that.
“There is no getting away from the fact that he is a Rangers boy and it would be nice to see him back. Does he see that as a step back in his career? Only he can answer that.
“He came through at Chelsea, went to Brighton and it has not quite worked. He is still very young and very talented with a lot to give.
“I think his next move is very important for him to go somewhere and get regular football so he can get back to the player we all know that he is.“
