Billy Connolly fans want to name a new landmark in Scotland after the comedy legend.
Glaswegians are looking to pay tribute to the star after a petition to name a new bridge over the River Clyde has reached more than 1,800 signatures.
The petition to name the new £29.5m Govan/Partick pedestrian and cycle bridge after the Big Yin has racked up the impressive number of signatures in less than a week after it was launched.
The author of the petition noted that the bridge would be a fitting tribute for the retired comedian after he spent many years living in Partick and working as an apprentice in the Govan shipyards.
The bridge, which will link Water Row in Govan and Pointhouse Quay in Partick, is expected to open to the public towards the end of 2023, Glasgow Live reports.
The legendary comic, 79, was diagnosed with Parkinson's while undergoing surgery for early-stage prostate cancer in 2013 and retired from live comedy five years later.
The author of the petition wrote: "In November 2021, Glasgow City Council awarded a contract to build a new footbridge between Pointhouse Quay in Partick and Water Row in Govan. The bridge is due to be completed by 2023.
"With his formative years spent in Stewartville Street and at St Peter's Primary north of the river before attending St Gerard's Secondary (commuting from Drumchapel no less) and becoming an apprentice at Alexander Stephens south of the river, there can surely be no more fitting name than entitling this bridge after the legendary Sir Billy Connolly.
"With the Big Yin suffering from Parkinson's Disease, such a tribute within his lifetime linking two areas of the city so indelibly connected with one of Glasgow's (and Scotland's) most beloved sons would be no more than the great figure deserves."
Andrew Kane, the man who started the petition was blown away by the support and number of signatures after only a few days.
He wrote: "Wow! I didn't expect this to get much traction, but almost 900 signatories in just two days?! I must've underestimated Glasgow's love of Billy! Thank you so much for considering this idea worthy of actual thought and not just the ramblings of a madman.
"Once again, thank you all for your support, and let's hope we can get the legend a memorial worthy of his gigantic stature (with or without his famous Banana Boots)!"
Sir Billy and his wife Pamela have been based in the United States for more than 30 years and have lived in Quay West, in Florida, for the last few years.
During an event with Waterstones, he was asked if he would consider returning to Scotland to live, responding: "Oh yeah, I would live there at the drop of a hat.
"I think it's a great place to live.
"I've got the whole family to think about. They've all got jobs and careers.
He added: "Glasgow is very much my home. Even now, talking about it I get a kind of vibration.
"It's a lovely place. It means a great deal to me. It's a lovely town to come from."
The timing would be spot on too, given the fact that Anderston-born Billy will turn 80 this coming November 24.
