Bills vs Lions sets mark for highest-scoring NFL game of 2024-25

Week 15 had a possible Super Bowl preview when the Buffalo Bills traveled to Detroit to take on the Lions.

Detroit entered the game on an 11-game winning streak. Buffalo entered the contest already with the AFC East wrapped up.

Josh Allen entered week 15 against the Lions as the favorite to win the MVP.

All he did was further prove he has been the best player in the league this season.

Allen has been impossible to stop this year.

Below, we recap the wild game between the Bills and Lions, discuss Josh Allen being the MVP, and discuss whether the Lions will be in trouble if they don’t finish first in the NFC.

Buffalo Bills @ Detroit Lions Recap

The Buffalo Bills vs the Detroit Lions was the highest-scoring contest of the year in the NFL so far this season.

Buffalo took down Detroit 48-42.

Josh Allen went 23/34 for 362 passing yards, two passing TDs, 68 rushing yards, and two rushing TDs. James Cook had 105 rushing yards, two rushing TDs, one catch, and 28 receiving yards. Ty Johnson had nine rushing yards, five catches, and 114 receiving yards. Keon Coleman had one catch that went for 64 yards. Khalil Shakir had six catches, 39 receiving yards, and one receiving TD.

Detroit’s offense also had a massive game. Jared Goff went 38/59 for a whopping 494 passing yards, five passing TDs, and 13 rushing yards. Jahmyr Gibbs had 31 rushing yards, one rushing TD, five receptions, 83 receiving yards, and one receiving TD. Amon-Ra St. Brown had 14 catches, 193 receiving yards, and one receiving TD. Sam LaPorta had seven catches and 111 receiving yards. Jameson Williams had three catches, 37 receiving yards, and one receiving TD.

Both defenses seemed to have taken the night off.

Josh Allen Cements MVP With Huge Performance

Josh Allen was already the frontrunner for MVP and he cemented winning the award with his week 15 performance.

Allen is now a -900 favorite to win the award. Lamar Jackson is second at +550 odds.

Barring a wild final three games where Allen would have to play horrendous football, he will be the MVP.

Allen has 25 passing TDs and 11 rushing TDs, giving him 36 total TDs on the year.

In just his last two starts, Josh Allen had five passing TDs and five rushing TDs. He has recorded a whopping 10 total TDs in his last two games. Allen has thrown for over 340 passing yards in each of the last two games.

Josh Allen may have put together the greatest two-game performance ever.

Do The Lions Need To Finish First In The NFC?

With the loss, the Detroit Lions are tied with the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC with a 12-2 record.

Detroit remains in first but has a much more challenging final three-game schedule than Philly.

Detroit’s remaining three-game schedule is:

  • Week 16: @ Chicago Bears
  • Week 17: @ San Francisco 49ers
  • Week 18: vs Minnesota Vikings

Philadelphia’s remaining three-game schedule is:

  • Week 16: @ Washington Commanders
  • Week 17: vs Dallas Cowboys
  • Week 18: vs New York Giants

There is no denying Philly has an easier schedule to end the season.

Detroit needs home-field advantage much more than Philly does. Jared Goff struggles on the road and in poor weather conditions. He will not perform well if he has to play in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia matches up well with any team and can win any kind of game. Philadelphia can go into Detroit and defeat them while it will be more difficult for the Lions to beat Philly on the road. If the Eagles finish first in the NFC and have home-field advantage in the postseason, they would be the favorites to win the Super Bowl.

Detroit needs to remain first in the NFC to have the best chance of making it to the Super Bowl.
