President Joe Biden hosted Bills safety Damar Hamlin at the White House on Thursday.
Hamlin, who went into cardiac arrest during Buffalo’s game against the Bengals on Jan. 2, has made a miraculous recovery since being hospitalized after being administered CPR on the field that night. According to many reports, Hamlin is not willing to allow his injury to prevent him from making a return to the field next season.
As he continues his recovery, Hamlin took a trip to the nation’s capital to meet with POTUS. Biden shared a photo of his meeting accompanied with a strong statement regarding Hamlin’s battle and positive effects on the world.
"Damar Hamlin’s courage, resilience, and spirit inspired the American people,” Biden wrote from his official Twitter account. “And what's more: he turned recovery into action – and our country is better for it. It was my honor to have him and his family here today.”

According to Stephen Thompson of Inside The Panthers, Hamlin was in Washington D.C. "to lobby for the Access to AEDs Act, a bipartisan bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives this week.” The proposed bill “would establish a grant program to fund the purchase of AEDs, encourage CPR training and develop cardiac emergency response plans in schools.”
Hamlin took to his own Twitter account as well to show appreciation for President Biden taking the time to meet with him, saying “It was a pleasure & an honor meeting you today. I know your time is precious and I wouldn't waste a second of it! Our conversations were valuable.. #UncleJoe.”
