Brett Adcock bought Meta Platforms' (META) smart glasses and gave them a less-than-glowing review despite the popularity of the social media giant's latest diversification attempt. "The Meta glasses are probably one of the worst products I've ever bought," the Figure AI founder said on the “My First Million” podcast earlier this month. "They're just horrible. They're horrible. Like I can't even figure out how to use it," he continued. That is an unusually blunt verdict on the device the technology industry has broadly settled on as the next computing platform, and it came from someone who paid for one.
It also came from someone building a competitor, so the review should also be taken with a grain of salt. Adcock founded Figure AI, the humanoid robotics company, after building and selling Archer Aviation (ACHR) and recruiting marketplace Vettery. He now also runs Hark, a company making AI hardware, and he is explicit about the target. "We're designing what we think are the next generation of AI devices that will kill the phone and computer," he said. "To solve that, you've got to take down the computer and the phone. There's no way around that." So, he is not a neutral reviewer.
