The New England Patriots ended their season on a low note, losing at home against the rival New York Jets, 17–3, in what was potentially the final game of Bill Belichick’s tenure as the franchise’s head coach.
After the game, Belichick spoke to reporters, during which he admitted that the 2023 campaign was a disappointing one.
Expectedly, the 71-year-old declined to comment on his future with the Patriots, though he informed reporters a meeting with owner Robert Kraft was looming.
“I’ll address questions about the game; anything about the future, I’ll meet with Robert Kraft, like I always do,” Belichick said, via Mike Reiss of ESPN.

Sunday’s loss to the Jets could potentially have been his final game as the head coach for New England. Belichick’s future with the franchise remains uncertain following the season finale, but he didn’t provide any further input on his situation.
New England’s 4–13 record is its worst since Belichick took over as head coach in 2000. The team has now missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, and three of four years since Tom Brady departed the organization.
Without Brady, Belichick and the Patriots have registered a 29–37 record and haven’t advanced past the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
