New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick isn’t one to comment on a player’s chances of making the team. However, he did have some interesting things to say about versatile rookie quarterback Malik Cunningham on Monday.
Cunningham has played both the quarterback and wide receiver positions over the course of the preseason. He has recorded 19 passing yards on 3-of-6 attempts under center. He has also rushed the football six times for 39 yards and a touchdown.
In addition to playing quarterback, he is trying his hand at wide receiver. His athleticism and positional versatility were on full display over the course of training camp and the preseason.
Belichick gave Cunningham a solid review when speaking on “The Greg Hill Show”, as transcribed by ESPN’s Mike Reiss.
“Malik is a really interesting player. Kid never played receiver before or returned kicks, and he’s done both,” said Belichick. “As well as playing quarterback. He certainly has some things on his resume. So do other players. We’ll see how all that plays out.”
