Two people were rushed to hospital last night after a "horrific" crash in Aberdeenshire involving a motorbike and a car, which was witnessed by a local MSP.
Police were alerted shortly after 9pm on Wednesday July 21 to reports of the smash on West Road in Peterhead. Emergency services raced to the scene as people from nearby houses poured out to try and help.
The road was shut for some time after the incident but officers say it had reopened again by 11.30pm. The 28-year-old male rider of the motorbike and his 19-year-old male passenger were both taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
Karen Adam, MSP for Banffshire and Buchan Coast, posted online this morning to thank emergency services for their swift action, revealing she was first on the scene. She described the carnage saying: "I was the car behind a horrific RTA last night at West Road in Peterhead.
"Being first on the scene, what I witnessed won’t leave me for a long time. Off duty police, nurses, medics all ran to help. Ambulance arrived within minutes. So many stayed to help the ambulance crew.
"Folks ran from houses and cars around to offer items for first aid while I was on the phone to emergency services. The nurse gave me information to pass on which meant a clearer picture for services to respond.
"The only thing I could do was tell them not to move. So many heroes stepped up. I need first aid training. I hope with all my heart they make a full recovery.
"I didn’t get names but want those local heroes to be recognised for the calm and professional way they responded so fast - which I have no doubt will have helped those casualties have an increased recovery chance. If anyone knows those involved please pass on my message and love."
