PATNA: A chilling video has emerged from Sitamarhi in which a woman could be seen giving birth to a baby on a road just outside the sadar hospital. A doctor at the hospital had referred her to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur due to low haemoglobin.
The video, purportedly shot on July 14, was posted on social media by RJD leader Ritu Jaiswal, who described the sadar hospital as “sadak (road) hospital”. In the video, the woman in fragile condition could be seen being helped by other women and a midwife from a nearby village. She was also injected on the road.
The woman’s family members said the hospital first asked them to arrange blood and then referred her to SKMCH due to low haemoglobin. “The woman doctor who had referred her to SKMCH was not present at the hospital. Instead, she asked the hospital staff to shift her to SKMCH over the phone,” said a family member of the patient.
Health department additional chief secretary Pratyaya Amrit said the matter was being probed. “Action will be taken if anyone at the hospital is found guilty of negligence,” he added.
Jaiswal slammed the hospital administration for not providing an ambulance to the pregnant woman. “This is not the first time that incidence of negligence at Sitamarhi sadar hospital has come to light. Another pregnant woman at the hospital was referred to SKMCH at midnight without any medical aid a week back,” she alleged.
