Biggar Ladies finally got their hands on the West Regional League trophy at the weekend – as they took a major step towards the Tennent’s National League One after beating Shetland Ladies 51-0 in their play-off semi-final.
The Hartree Mill club won the West Regional League back in December, having won all six of their matches, and have now collected the silverware.
But their season is far from over as they now face similarly-undefeated Dundee Valkyries on Sunday in their final, to see who gains entry to National League 1.
Played in front of a large support, Biggar dominated the exchanges and had virtually secured the game by half-time.
Shetland, however, never gave up and proved worthy opponents, despite a massive round trip of some 760 miles.
Biggar’s points came from double tries by captain Abbie Baillie, Megan McCarry and Gerry Kimm, with further tries by Alison Orr and Emma Orr, with Emma kicking four conversions.
An added bonus was the appearance of John Gillies of Scottish Rugby, who presented Abbie Baillie with the West Region Trophy.
Biggar: Geraldine Kimm, Bria Boyd, Emily Inglis, Emelia Knights, Anna Forsyth, Emma Orr, Abbie Baillie, Jennifer Bell, Alison Orr, Rebecca Coffey, Alison Russell, Laura Watson, Megan McCarry, Alyson Henderson, Robyn Struthers. Replacements: Verity Kennett, Megan Maciver, Cristina Ertze, Jenny Leech, Vicky Haddow, Rebecca Clarke.
Sunday’s game kicks off at 2pm at Alloway Place Campus, Dundee.
