Big Brother narrator Marcus Bentley’s iconic Teesside twang could be coming back to our screens in 2023 for the show’s revival. The voiceover artist hinted at his return by sharing a picture of his security pass from the year 2000.
Marcus, 54, originally from Stockton-On-Tees, County Durham, has narrated all 19 series of Big Brother and the show’s spinoffs including Celebrity Big Brother, Teen Big Brother, Ultimate Big Brother, and Celebrity Hijack. For many of us Marcus’ North East accent was the soundtrack to the 2000s and helped make the show the success it was.
The star hinted that he’ll be returning to the show after a four-year hiatus. Marcus tweeted a picture of himself looking fresh faced in the Big Brother set security pass, with the caption: “Might need a new pass - #BBUK”.

Fans remarked on how young Marcus looked in the picture that was taken in the early years of his career when the famous voice had a thick head of jet black hair. Marcus replied: “Twenty years will do that to you.”
Love Island fans were left stunned by the shock announcement that Big Brother would be returning for a 20th series after ITV announced the news during Monday’s final. Big Brother's famous theme tune confirmed the news when it played during the final Love Island ad break.
However ITV is yet to confirm that Marcus will be returning as the show's narrator. Marcus told Radio Times on Tuesday: “I'm not confirmed. It's very early days. I think it sounds like I am. I'm getting calls from [producers] and they're going to keep me updated. But they haven't chosen anything.”
Is Big Brother narrator Marcus Bentley a Geordie?
Marcus Bentley is not from Newcastle so his accent is not strictly Geordie. Many people mistakenly believe that Marcus has a Geordie accent, however he grew up in Stockton-On-Tees in County Durham.
Marcus’ accent has a north eastern twang and could be described as a Teessider or a County Durham accent, although this is up for discussion. He now lives in Canterbury in Kent.
