She won over the Australian public on this year’s season of Big Brother Australia, but it turns out Coco Beeby almost appeared on an earlier season of the reality show.
It was recently revealed that the 30-year-old mum-of-three, who won $135,000 in Monday night’s finale, had auditioned for Channel 9’s version of the series back in 2014. A resurfaced article from The Canberra Times reporting on the in-person auditions included comments from the former childcare worker about why she wanted to apply.
“It’s something I want to do. I can’t wait, have a break from the kids,” Coco said at the time, adding that it would be a “really great challenge” to be away from the ocean for three months. Vibes.

Coco admits she’s ‘glad’ she wasn’t on Big Brother in 2014
Following her 2025 win, Coco confirmed to PEDESTRIAN.TV that she had travelled from her home on NSW’s North Coast to audition for Big Brother in Canberra over a decade ago.
“I was literally travelling down to Sydney and my sister was like, ‘I’m gonna go down to Canberra, you should audition for Big Brother’. And I remember going down with my sister and auditioning in person,” she recalled.
Coco admitted she couldn’t have imagined appearing on the reality show at such a young age and gave major props to 21-year-olds Colin Ridley and Vinnie Brigante on this year’s season.
“I’m really glad that I didn’t get in, because I don’t think I would have handled it as an 18-year-old girl. I just couldn’t have handled that whole experience,” she remarked.
“Those boys, like Colin and Vinnie, being 21, they did such an exceptional job at handling what was thrown at them in that house, so I’m super proud of them at that age to be able to handle that sort of thing.”

Given how much of a chokehold Big Brother has had on Australia since it launched in 2001, fans were surprised when Coco admitted in the finale that she had only seen “one or two” episodes of the show.
This statement is especially suss considering she applied twice, but Coco insisted it remains true.
“I auditioned and then I think I’d only seen another episode [since then],” she shared. “I was like, should I binge some before I go in? Should I figure out how this game works?
“And then I thought, you know what? Going in without any expectations is only going to exceed my expectations and it did just that.”
Coco also revealed she didn’t apply for any other season of Big Brother besides 2014 and 2025 — and seeing how much the Channel 7 version was panned, she defs made the right choice.
“I had kids, got divorced, you name it all in between then,” she laughed. “So yeah, I had a bit on.”
Big Brother 2014 was ultimately won by 26-year-old Ryan Ginns. The season also introduced the world to 20-year-old Skye Wheatley, who has since gone on to become one of Australia’s biggest influencers and was crowned Queen of the Jungle on last year’s season of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
Coco might have missed out on the fun then, but everything happens for a reason!
