The Big Lead: Treasury Plans $6 Billion Bond Buyback
The U.S. Treasury is buying back at least $6 billion in government debt. That is triple the normal number and significantly higher than the Aug. 19 estimate from U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who told Americans at that time that the move is meant to help markets run smoothly.
