Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark enjoyed perhaps the biggest mic-drop moment of any league commissioner in sports history on Thursday when he channeled his inner Michael Jordan.
Colorado, who left the Big 12 back in 2011, announced Thursday they will be leaving the Pac-12 in 2024 to rejoin the conference. As Sports Illustrated previously reported, “The conference’s presidents and chancellors reportedly voted unanimously to accept Colorado as a new member of the Big 12 during a conference call on Wednesday night. On Thursday, the school’s board of regents held a meeting and unanimously voted upon a resolution, approving the move.”
Later in the night, Yormack took the announcement to the next level when via the Big 12’s official Twitter page a release was shared which read:
“The following statement was released today by the Big 12 Conference, through its Commissioner Brett Yormark, regarding the University of Colorado: ‘They're back.’”

The configuration should look familiar to sports fans as it closely mirrors when Jordan announced his own return to the NBA back on March 18, 1995.
“The following statement was released today by Michael Jordan, through his personal attorney and business manager David B. Falk, Chairman of Falk Associates Management Enterprises, Inc. (“FAME”) located in Washington, D.C., in response to questions about his future career plans: ‘I’m back.’”
The idea to copy Jordan’s footsteps sent social media into a frenzy and the responses were terrific.
