ATLANTA — Many U.S. presidents have stopped by Ebenezer Baptist Church to pay honor to its former pastor, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., usually in events around the time of his birthday. But on Sunday, President Joe Biden will become the first of them to do so from the pulpit during a regular morning service.
With an introduction from the church’s current pastor, U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock, Biden is expected to deliver a speech outlining his vision for America wrapped in reflections on King, whom the president credits as one of his biggest influences.
The speech is likely to also outline policy themes for the second half of his first term, and Biden could provide some hints and how he would approach a reelection campaign that is widely expected to launch soon.
